Westmoreland County’s Elections Board on Wednesday pre-certified Republican Eric Davanzo’s victory in last week’s special election to fill the vacant state House seat in the 58th District.

Davanzo, a union carpenter from South Huntingdon, defeated Democrat Robert Prah Jr. and Libertarian Ken Bach and will be seated next month to complete the remaining nine months in term of former state Rep. Justin Walsh, who resigned in January after he was elected as a Common Pleas Court judge.

Davanzo won by 975 votes and received more nearly 53% of the more than 8,100 votes cast. Prah received 41% and Bach garnered almost 7% of the vote.

Elections Bureau Director Beth Lechman said the results will become official on April 1.

Both Davanzo and Prah are candidates for a full two-year term for the 58th District seat. They are both unopposed in their party’s primary, now scheduled for June 2.

The 58th District covers Adamsburg, Arona, East Huntingdon, parts of Hempfield, Jeannette, Madison, Monessen, Mt. Pleasant, North Belle Vernon, Penn Borough, Rostraver, Sewickley Township, Smithton, South Huntingdon, Sutersville and West Newton.
