Delivery vehicle overturns on Hempfield road after colliding with car
A Chick-fil-A delivery vehicle ended up on its side Saturday afternoon on Roseytown Road in Hempfield after colliding with another vehicle, emergency responders said.
The driver, a woman who was not identified, had to be freed from the vehicle, which overturned at the western entrance of the railroad tunnel near Berger Street, said Greg Saunders, a Bovard firefighter.
She still was strapped by the seat belt when firefighters from Greensburg and Hempfield arrived, Saunders said. The accident, which involved a vehicle with Virginia license plates, was reported at 2 p.m.
”They had to cut the seat belt to keep her from strangling,” Saunders said.
Firefighters removed the windshield and cut the roof with a tool, then freed her, Saunders said.
The driver of the SUV was transported to Excela Westmoreland Hospital in Greensburg.
The driver of a car traveling in the opposite direction and an occupant also were taken to Excela Westmoreland Hospital. That car, which had come through the tunnel, was damaged along the driver’s side.
State police investigated.
Information on patients treated at Excela Health was not available Sunday.
