Delmont Council appointed Amanda List to replace former Councilman David Weber at a special meeting Wednesday night.
Weber was recently appointed mayor to fill out the term of Alyce Urban, who resigned unexpectedly in late 2025 a few months after running unopposed and winning reelection.
Council voted 5-1 in favor of appointing List, 41, a newcomer to elected office. List was joined by former council president Andy Shissler, who lost a reelection bid last year, in expressing interest for the vacated council seat.
A motion by Councilwoman Pam Simpson to appoint Shissler to the seat did not receive a second. Simpson cast the lone vote against List’s appointment.
Weber, who does not have a vote as mayor, said his preference was to appoint Shissler, owing to his 16 years of experience on council, and his fifth-place finish in the 2025 municipal elections.
“I like Amanda. She’s my neighbor,” Weber said. “But I think for the good of Delmont, you should put Andy back on council.”
New council President Bob Walczer also cited the recent election results, but for a different reason.
“Voters in Delmont opted to choose three new council candidates and an incumbent over Mr. Shissler,” Walczer said. “I think some new blood is good for the borough.”
List is the program director at the Westmoreland County Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services.
“There’s a lot of change happening in Delmont, and this seemed like an opportunity to be part of that,” List said. “I moved back from Greensburg because I grew up here and community matters. I wanted to raise my kids in a place that’s small and connected, where people value each other. My entire family is active in the community. I can remember riding around with my grandmother delivering Meals on Wheels.”
List said she hopes to work on improving access in general within the borough, whether it’s fixing sidewalks or creating a connector path to the Westmoreland Heritage Trail, a project she is also helping to pursue as a member of the Delmont Visionary Committee.
“I think working with some new council members, being someone with young children who are active in Delmont sports and volunteering are all part of the motivation for me,” she said.
List will take the oath of office at council’s regular meeting, set for 6 p.m. March 11 at the borough building, 77 Greensburg St.
