Members of Delmont council with solicitor Dan Hewitt on Tuesday, Dec. 14, 2021.

Delmont officials will hold two public workshops to go over the 2023 budget in the coming weeks.

The borough will host 6 p.m. budget workshops on Oct. 23 and Nov. 2 at the borough building at 77 Greensburg Street.

The first session typically covers incoming revenue for the new budget year, with the second touching on expenses. Workshop sessions last roughly two hours each.

Library update

Friends of the Delmont Library board member Louisa Fordyce on Tuesday presented council with the library’s annual funding request, and also updated them on the library’s use.

Fordyce said the library is on track to lend out more than 41,000 items in 2022.

“Since we’ve reopened full-time, we’ve really seen a lot of people coming through the doors, for books and for the library’s different programs and events,” Fordyce said. “In Westmoreland County, there are 26 libraries, and we’re ranked seventh in lending.”

In addition, the Route 66 Dairy Queen will host a “Delmont Dairy Queen Day” from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Oct. 20, with 20% of the day’s proceeds going to support library programs. There will also be a “Princess & Pirate Party” from 5-7 p.m. that will include a story-time session, face painting and books to check out. Visit DelmontLibrary.org to register.

Tree planting

The borough is seeking volunteers to help plant 15 bare-root trees on the Shields Farm property.

The trees will be delivered during the first week of November. Anyone interested in volunteering can call the borough at 724-468-4422.

New secretary

Council accepted the resignation of borough secretary Kellie Miele at its Tuesday meeting. Council members also voted to hire Dawn Earhart as her replacement, effective Oct. 19.

Earhart is hired at a rate of $20 per hour for the first 90 days, and $21 per hour afterward.

Trick-or-treating

The borough will host Halloween trick-or-treating from 6-8 p.m. Oct. 31.
