Delmont will vote on $1.7 million balanced budget next month
Delmont officials will advertise a $1.7 million balanced budget for 2021 that does not call for a tax hike.
Following two public budget workshops, council voted Tuesday night to advertise its 2021 budget.
Taxes will remain at 18 mills.
This year’s budget is about a half-million dollars larger than the $1.2 million 2020 budget.
Council will vote on the 2021 budget at its final meeting of the year, set for 7 p.m., Dec. 8 at the borough building, 77 Greensburg Street.
In other borough business:
• Borough officials are working on a design for a permanent restroom at Rose Wigfield Parklet on Greensburg Street.
The Delmont-Salem Rotary raised $10,000 of the proposed $19,000 cost of the restroom, according to Councilman David Weber, who said construction will likely happen in the spring of 2021.
• The borough will partner with Greensburg nonprofit Share the Joy to bring Santa Claus to town on Dec. 19.
“It will be sort of a motorcade parade,” Councilman Stan Cheyne said. “Folks can come out and see Santa, and sort of have something to look forward to.”
Cheyne said the borough will release additional details as the event gets closer.
• The Delmont Public Library will close beginning Nov. 23, as staff prepares to move into their new building across the street.
The move is slated to be complete shortly before Christmas, library board members said.
