The water in Derry is safe to drink again.

The Derry Borough Municipal Authority lifted a boil water advisory on Wednesday that was put in place following a Sunday evening water main break.

The break at the corner of East Second Avenue and South Chestnut Street caused some residents to lose water pressure, while others lost service completely. It was repaired by Monday.

There were 2,500 customers in the borough and Derry Township affected by the boil water advisory.

The advisory is required by the state Department of Environmental Protection after a loss of water pressure that could allow contaminants to enter the system.

Under the state’s requirements, two consecutive tests must show the water system is free of contaminants before the notice can be lifted.
