Derry Township bridge detour to begin in June

Motorists will have to detour around a section of Bergman Road in Derry Township beginning in June, as PennDOT works to replace a bridge across McGee Run.

The detour is expected to last throughout the construction season, with access maintained for local traffic only within 500 feet of either end of the bridge.

For vehicles approaching the eastern end of the bridge, access will stop just short of a Derry water pump station.

To reach locations on the western end of the bridge, including the Ridgeview Veterinary Clinic and local farms, motorists may travel through Derry Borough, turning north onto Route 982 and then onto Pizza Barn Road to reach Bergman Road.

Detour signs will be placed on Thursday and will go into effect June 10.

Contractor Frank Gavlik & Sons has a goal of completing work on the $574,638 project in September. The firm has begun preliminary, off-road, work including tree removal and placement of erosion and sediment controls.
