A bridge that is rated in “poor” condition is scheduled for repairs next year near the northern Derry Township community of Torrance.

PennDOT said plans for fixing the bridge that carries Torrance Road over McGee Run are nearing completion, with bids for the project to be let in December.

According to PennDOT, the bridge was constructed in 1952. It sees an average of about 2,600 vehicles cross it per day, with trucks accounting for 17% of that traffic.

The bridge deck has deteriorated and has developed structural deficiencies, state highway officials say.

The project will include making repairs to the deck and placing a new asphalt overlay.

During construction, which is expected next spring or summer, traffic will be regulated by a temporary traffic signal.

The public can view online plans for the project by visiting penndot.pa.gov/RegionalOffices/district-12, selecting the link for Design and Construction Projects, and then clicking the “Westmoreland County” box followed by the “Torrance Bridge Preservation” box.

The project site, which will be displayed through Nov. 14, allows visitors to view project maps and submit comments.
