Traffic detours will begin Monday in Sutersville and Tuesday in Ligonier Township as crews in the respective municipalities work on railroad crossing maintenance and replacement of a culvert.

Beginning at 6 a.m. Monday and continuing through late Friday, First Street in Sutersville will be closed between First and Third avenues as CSX Transportation workers take care of maintenance tasks.

A posted detour will divert motorists along Dick Station and Lowber roads, Second Avenue/Sutersville Road, First Avenue and First Street.

Ligonier Township’s Wilpen Road will be closed between Baton Road and Hotel Street, beginning about 7 a.m. Tuesday, so PennDOT crews can replace a culvert with a concrete pipe.

That closure is expected to continue through early September.

A portion of Route 711 (Market Street Extension) is included in the detour.

Three Westmoreland County roads are among locations that will be subject to single-lane restrictions once Bronder Technical Services starts work Monday morning on a multi-county sign installation project.

The contractor will place chevron signs to warn motorists of curves ahead on Route 982 and Clay Pike Road in Mt. Pleasant Township and on Keystone Park Road in Derry Township. Chevron signs are large arrows on reflective signs that point in the direction of the next curve.

Flaggers will control traffic in the affected locations, as needed, between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. through mid-August.

The work is part of a $132,000 project that also includes sign work in Fayette, Washington and Greene counties.

Meanwhile, PennDOT is planning the following additional work on roads in Westmoreland County during the week beginning Monday:

• Washout repairs will be conducted on Murrysville Trafford Road in Penn Township.

• A slide repair, with a single-lane restriction, will be conducted on Donohoe Road in Hempfield.

• A surface treatment will be applied on Hawkeye Road in East Huntingdon.

• Edge paving: will take place on Rostraver Road and Nicholls Hill Road in Rostraver.

• Shoulder cutting will take place on Route 31 (Laurelville Road) in Mt. Pleasant Township.

• Shoulder stabilization will take place on Route 711 in Cook and Ligonier townships and Solomon Temple Road in Unity.

• Pipe replacements will take place on Pandora Road in Derry Township and Route 982 in Unity.

• Pipe maintenance will take place on Route 51 in Rostraver and on Mt. Nebo Church Road in East Huntingdon.

• Pipe installations will take place on Route 982 (Kecksburg Road) in Mt. Pleasant Township, on Wilpen Road in Ligonier Township and on Laughner Road in Fairfield.

Crews will pick up litter, replace road signs and perform other tasks on various routes countywide.

Motorists should anticipate potential detours, lane restrictions and flaggers in work areas.

Residents can call PennDOT toll-free at 800-349-7623 to report road maintenance concerns and the locations of dead deer on state highways.
