A nationally known conservative commentator is scheduled to speak at the $40-a-person “Legacy to America” outdoor event that will feature state and local Republican Party candidates on Oct. 25 at the Norwin Elks in Manor.

Dinesh D’Souza, the best-selling author and documentarian, is to speak at the event scheduled for noon to 6 p.m. at the Norwin Elks off Sandy Hill Road. D’Souza pleaded guilty in federal court in 2014 to a felony charge of using a “straw donor” to make a $20,000 illegal campaign contribution to a Republican U.S. Senate campaign in New York. President Donald Trump pardoned D’Souza in 2018.

D’Souza has spoken at local events hosted by the 1776 group, which bills itself as a nonpartisan educational organization, in Westmoreland County the past two years.

D’Souza’s daughter, Danielle D’Souza Gill, who is a conservative author and commentator, also is scheduled to speak.

Among Republican officials scheduled to appear are state Sen. Kim Ward of Hempfield, state Rep. Bud Cook of Ellsworth, state Rep. Matt Dowling of Uniontown, Westmoreland County GOP Chairman Bill Bretz, Auditor General candidate Timothy DeFoor and Attorney General candidate Heather Heidelbaugh.

Greensburg musician Gary Pratt and a disc jockey are among those scheduled to provide entertainment.

Children and family activities also are planned. Food trucks and vendors will be at the scene. Those attending can bring a lawn chair.

Children age 12 and younger will be not be charged to attend.
