Discount registration open for Mon/Yough 5K and half marathon

Special early pricing is set to end Sunday for the Mon/Yough Trail Council’s annual 5K and half marathon races that start at the Boston access of the Great Allegheny Passage.

The races, the group’s largest annual fundraiser, will take place April 13.

Both races will run south along the Youghiogheny River. The half marathon starts at 9 a.m. and the 5K at 9:15. The finish line for both will be at the Boston trailhead.

Registration at the special pricing through Sunday is $40 for the half marathon (13.1 miles) and $25 for the 5K (3.1 miles). Registrations at a higher price will be accepted until April 11. Awards will be given to top finishers. To register or for more details, visit thebostontrail.com.

Mon/Yough Trail Council volunteers maintain 15 miles of trail between McKeesport and the border of Allegheny and Westmoreland counties. They formed in 1991.

The Great Allegheny Passage was officially named in 2001. It is an former railroad line that has been transformed into a 150-mile walking and biking trail between Pittsburgh and Cumberland, Md.
