Stoneybrook instructor Alydia Yothers (right) helps Jocelyn Whipkey, 11, of Donegal read a story to Goose during a Reading with Horses session at Stoneybrook Foundation in Donegal Township in February. The program offers children a chance to practice reading to a captive audience of horses without judgement.

The Stoneybrook Foundation in Donegal Township has regular sessions where children can practice their reading skills with a captive audience — horses.

The Reading With Horses program allows children to work on or fine tune their reading skills while furry ears listen. Participants can bring their own book or pick one from the foundation’s collection.

The program can help young readers develop confidence and leadership qualities, according to the foundation.

The next Reading With Horses event is set for March 20. To learn more or sign up, visit stoneybrook foundation.org.
