An Indiana County man was sentenced to state prison Friday for stealing thousands of dollars worth of packages from porches in four counties and putting the goods up for sale on Facebook Marketplace.

John D. Manning, 35, was sentenced to one to three years in prison followed by four years of probation, according to an announcement from Attorney General Dave Sunday.

Manning pleaded guilty earlier this month to organized retail theft. A DoorDash driver, authorities said Manning used that work to look for targets in Allegheny, Armstrong, Indiana and Westmoreland counties.

He was accused by state police of taking packages delivered to porches in Greensburg, Fox Chapel and Plum, among other locations. Manning was arrested in late February after troopers said they found numerous stolen packages at his Armstrong Township home and in his car.

“While delivering meals as a DoorDash driver, this defendant was also scouting neighborhoods and homes for potential theft opportunities, which he later acted upon,” Sunday said in the announcement. “This conviction would not have been possible without the assistance of our law enforcement partners in Western Pennsylvania, including the Pennsylvania State Police.”

In court papers filed against Manning, a Greensburg woman told police she saw a postal worker drop off six packages Feb. 12 on her front porch. As the postal truck left, a white car pulled up and the driver took them all. She provided a description of the car and, over the next two days, authorities said a person and car matching the same description swiped packages from porches in Fox Chapel, according to court papers.
