A Pittsburgh man was wearing a bulletproof vest when Murrysville police said he led them on a chase Wednesday afternoon following a drug bust, according to court papers.

Authorities said Keyshawn H. Campbell, 23, also had a sweatshirt with body armor sewn in it wrapped around the drivers seat of a Jeep. Campbell was being held at the Westmoreland County Prison without bail.

Murrysville police and the Westmoreland County Drug Task Force, with the help of the state attorney general’s office, have been investigating Campbell since June. Authorities bought cocaine from him around 1 p.m. Wednesday for a second time and task force officers converged after the deal to make an arrest, according to court papers.

They said Campbell fled onto Route 22 near Tarr Hollow Road and police ended the chase by using tire deflation devices, according to a complaint. Cocaine, marijuana, amphetamine pills and 357 stamp bags of heroin were reportedly seized from the Jeep, in addition to a pistol and the body armor.

Campbell did not have an attorney listed in online court records. He is charged with possession with intent to deliver, unlawful body armor and related offenses. A preliminary hearing is set for Sept. 10.
