Speed is believed to be a factor in a creash that killed a 23-year-old man in Hempfield, officials said.

Mario Paulone, of Lakeridge Drive, Hempfield, died from injuries suffered when his Chevy Trailblazer crashed at 1:37 a.m. at 1316 Middletown Road, according to a report from Westmoreland County Coroner Kenneth Bacha.

According to Bacha’s report, Paulone was driving north when he failed to maneuver a slight left curve and his truck left the road and struck multiple trees.

He was trapped in the vehicle and rescued by crews from Carbon, Greensburg and Fort Allen, according to Westmoreland County dispatchers.

He was pronounced dead at Excela Westmoreland Emergency Department in Greensburg.

Paulone was wearing a seat belt.

State police were called to investigate.
