Murrysville officials plan to make $60,000 in upgrades to two pedestrian bridges over Turtle Creek in the municipality’s Duff Park. Tuesday, March 28, 2023.

A section of the Duff Park walking trail in Murrysville will remain closed through the new year for repairs to two pedestrian bridges.

“They’re getting pretty bad,” said Murrysville Mayor Regis Synan.

The section of trail which will close is normally accessible through the Roberts Trailhead on Route 22, via a spur connecting to the Westmoreland Heritage Trail.

Work crews will make repairs to pedestrian bridges that cross Turtle Creek as both the trail and waterway meander through the 220-acre public park. The upgrades are proposed to cost about $60,000.

The Heritage Trail will also see some work in 2024. Resurfacing is nearly complete on the portion connecting Slickville and Saltsburg, and plans are in place for similar work on the Slickville-to-Delmont section.

Trail board member Vicki Rudge said a firm date to start the work has not been set.

“There is some other work that needs to be done before the resurfacing can occur,” she said.

Trail officials are still finalizing a plan for the final section of the trail, which will connect Export and Delmont to form one continuous path between Trafford and Saltsburg.
