East Huntingdon woman accused of $13,500 theft from Greensburg YWCA thrift shop
An East Huntingdon woman is accused of taking $13,500 from the YWCA Thrift Shop in Greensburg while she worked there, according to court papers.
Amy S. Yemc-Gera, 53, was in charge of making nightly deposits, police said. She is charged with theft and receiving stolen property.
An accountant for the YWCA told police 43 cash deposits between May and August were missing after organization officials noticed a missing deposit this month. YWCA officials said, on each occasion, Yemc-Gera was working and in charge of depositing the cash, according to court papers.
Officials told authorities that, after the missing deposit was discovered, they contacted Yemc-Gera and she claimed to have misplaced the money, but found it and took it to the bank. There was never any record of a deposit, police said.
She worked there for two years. It was unclear if she still was an employee.
Yemc-Gera did not have an attorney listed in online court records. She could not be reached for comment. A Sept. 15 preliminary hearing is set. She is free on $10,000 unsecured bail after being arraigned Friday.
