Elections issues the focus at League of Women Voters forums
Elections will be the focus of two upcoming talks sponsored by the League of Women Voters of Westmoreland County.
The Timely Topics speakers series will kick off on March 28 with a discussion about open primaries in Pennsylvania. Former state Sen. Jack Wagner will discuss efforts to amend state laws to allow independent and non-affiliated voters participate in primary elections.
Wagner currently serves as a co-chairman of Ballot Pa., a nonpartisan group that is advocating to allow the more than one million non Democratic or Republican voters to participate in spring primary elections. The March 28 forum will look at Pennsylvania’s closed primary system and the potential benefits of moving to an open primary process.
Westmoreland County Elections Bureau Director Greg McCloskey is scheduled to speak on April 19 about voting and election security issues.
Both forums will be conducted at 6:30 p.m. in the second floor conference room at the Greensburg-Hempfield Area Public Library on Main Street in Greensburg.
The League of Women Voters said seating will be limited. Registration is required and can be scheduled through the group’s website: www.lwv-westmoreland.org.
