Ex-Marine, double amputee, to speak at SCORE gathering at WCCC
A retired U.S. Marine from Uniontown who is a double amputee and owns a civil engineering firm will speak to a gathering of entrepreneurs during a meeting of SCORE at 9 a.m. Monday at the Westmoreland County Community College’s Commissioners Hall at the Youngwood campus.
Brandon Rumbaugh, 31, who is president of Brandon Rumbaugh Solutions that focuses on land development and oil and gas development, also is a motivational speaker.
Rumbaugh said he will tell his life story of serving in the Marines and being deployed to Iraq and Afghanistan, where he lost his legs in 2012 while helping another member of his platoon who had triggered a buried bomb. Rumbaugh stepped on another bomb, which resulting in him losing his left leg below the knee and his right leg at the hip.
Rumbaugh said he spent two years at Walter Reed Medical Center in Maryland, undergoing surgeries and rehabilitation to learn how to use prosthetic legs.
SCORE Westmoreland, which is based at Saint Vincent College in Unity, is an all-volunteer organization funded by the federal government as a resource partner of the U.S. Small Business Administration, helping entrepreneurs and small business’ solve problems. SCORE, an acronym for Service Corps of Retired Executives, does not charge for its mentoring and its educational workshops, said Don Rohac, program coordinator for SCORE Westmoreland.
