Nurses Taylor Stiffler (from left) of Greensburg, Mackenzie Sendro of Latrobe and Natalie Church of Belle Vernon hold newborns dressed in cardigan sweaters Wednesday in Excela Westmoreland Hospital in observance of World Kindness Day. A half-dozen babies born at the hospital this week were dressed in pint-size cardigans for the trip home with their families. It was part of the hospital’s celebration of World Kindness Day, which encourages all to don sweaters reminiscent of the iconic cardigans worn by beloved children’s television host Fred Rogers and to carry forth his message of spreading kindness. “To me and to all the nurses, it’s really important,” said Stiffler, a nurse and lactation consultant. “Mister Rogers is really instrumental in teaching these little ones all sorts of things as they get older. The message of being kind, and kindness to everybody, I think, to all nurses is important. That’s a major part of our profession.”
