One person was injured and a Jeannette family was displaced after a fire extensively damaged one side of a duplex early Saturday, according to city firefighters.
Jeannette Fire Chief William Frye said the fire was reported about 2 a.m. at 317 S. Fifth St.
“There was an adult resident who suffered a minor leg injury and was taken to an area hospital for treatment by Jeannette EMS,” Frye said.
Frye said the fire began in a second-floor bedroom on one side of the duplex.
“It was going pretty good when we got there. It was already into the ceiling and the walls when we arrived,” Frye said.
“We got it knocked down in about eight minutes after our arrival, but since it was already into the walls and ceiling there was a lot of overhaul,” Frye said.
Two adults and four children were living in the home, he said.
He said an investigation determined the fire started “in an overheated outlet” in a bedroom.
He estimated damage in excess of $10,000.
Frye said the family is being assisted by the American Red Cross.
The fire department was also accepting clothing at the fire station in sizes 2 and 3 girls toddler and small women’s for the girls and 14, 16 and small men for the boys. Toys are also being accepted.
