Family, friends, community say goodbye to ‘Mr. Mt. Pleasant’ Gerald Lucia

Mt. Pleasant on Wednesday celebrated the life and times of Gerald Lucia, the longtime Mt. Pleasant mayor and fire chief.

Lucia died Dec. 17. He was 76. On Wednesday, there was a procession of fire trucks before and after his funeral.

A volunteer firefighter for 46 years, Lucia served as chief of the department for the past 31 years.

He was in his ninth term as mayor, an office he had held since 1985. He served on borough council for six years, from 1979-85.

“Anything for the community” was Lucia’s motto. The man who friends affectionately called “Mr. Mt. Pleasant” was buried at Visitation Cemetery in the borough.
