Farmers market kicks off return of public events at Bushy Run Battlefield
The Bushy Run Battlefield Heritage Society’s monthly farmers market returns July 24, from 8 a.m. to noon.
Market dates are the fourth Saturday of the month, and will also take place Aug. 28 and Sept. 25.
There is no pre-registration required, nor any set-up fees for vendors. However, no animals, firearms, explosives or any other items that do not meet the society’s standards are permitted to be sold.
“The market’s return will be our first full event reopening, and we’re slowly bringing back other events,” said Bushy Run Battlefield Facilitator Shawn MacIntyre.
In addition to the market, the 258th anniversary of the Battle of Bushy Run will be marked by reenactments Aug. 6-8, and the society’s 11th annual car cruise is set for Aug. 21.
“The reenactment will be a little smaller this year, because we’ve gotten a late start in getting the word out,” MacIntyre said.
The nonprofit society is run by volunteers, and relies on the generosity of individuals and the community to meet its operating expenses and provide historical programming throughout the year.
“I’m so glad to see the market and other events at Bushy Run Battlefield being scheduled,” said market organizer Rob Malley. “Volunteers from the Bushy Run Battlefield Society are working hard to salvage what is left of the season.”
Regular hours at the battlefield park at 8 a.m. to dusk. The park is at 1253 Bushy Run Road in Penn Township.
