Fire breaks out at South Greensburg motel
No one was hurt Thursday when a fire broke out at the Knights Inn in South Greensburg, leaving several rooms damaged.
Fire Chief Matt White said everyone was able to escape from the rooms adjoining the one that had the most fire damage.
“When I arrived, there was heavy fire coming out of the room, the door had been burnt through,” he said.
He was unsure if anyone was in the room where the fire appeared to have started. The neighboring units sustained some fire damage and others had smoke and water damage, White said.
The motel is nestled in a small business district off Route 119 and part of the complex is in Southwest Greensburg.
“This building has some challenges … there’s some air gaps under the floor, there are some fire breaks on the roof that do help to keep it from going to unit to unit,” White said.
Firefighters worked on the roof and charred wood and mangled gutters were left. A fire at the motel a couple weeks ago was in a different building than Thursday’s blaze.
A cat was rescued from a room that sustained fire damage. A state police fire marshal is investigating the cause.
