No injuries were reported Saturday after a Unity home was extensively damaged by fire.

Dryridge Volunteer Fire Department Chief Rich Levay said firefighters from multiple central Westmoreland County fire departments responded to the blaze at the residence on McClellan Drive that was reported at 6:49 p.m. He said firefighters were on the scene for more than three hours.

“The fire was already through the roof when we arrived,” Levay said.

Levay said the unidentified homeowner was able to flee the residence with his pet dog.

“We still haven’t determined an official cause, but we think it may have been an electrical short in the kitchen. We’re happy no one was hurt,” Levay said.

Firefighters were on the scene until after 10 p.m., he said.

In addition to Dryridge, fire units from Bovard, Crabtree, Greensburg, Latrobe, Lloydsville, Marguerite, Mutual, Pleasant Unity and Youngstown also responded.
