A state police fire marshal is investigating the cause of a Tuesday afternoon fire at a vacant home in Jeannette.

Firefighters were called to North Third Street just before 1 p.m. and found heavy fire in the back of the second floor that had moved into the attic, according to fire Chief Bill Frye.

Flames were coming out of the windows of the two-story home when firefighters arrived, he said. Only a few feet on either side separated the structure from neighboring homes.

“Obviously, we had exposure problems with the houses nearby,” he said.

Firefighters from neighboring departments helped to extinguish the flames and ventilate the building.
