Firefighters remove a fryer that caught on fire at the McDonald’s restaurant on Route 31 in Donegal Township.

A fire Monday shut down a McDonald’s restaurant in Donegal Township, just off the Pennsylvania Turnpike, along with gas pumps at an adjoining convenience station.

A grease fire from a fryer was reported at 9:45 a.m. inside the restaurant on Route 31, according to a Westmoreland County 911 dispatcher. No injuries were reported.

Firefighters quickly extinguished the blaze using dry chemical extinguishers, Chestnut Ridge Assistant Chief Dan Pribisco said. The fire was ruled accidental, he said.

Flames and smoke were coming out of the roof vents as firefighters arrived, Pribisco said.

The gasoline pumps at the adjoining Honey Bear BP station were closed as firefighters from multiple Westmoreland and Fayette county volunteer fire departments put out the fire.

Authorities were uncertain how long the restaurant would be closed.
