A North Huntingdon house was destroyed by fire Wednesday afternoon in the Hahntown section of the township.

A elderly couple living in the wood-frame house along the 300 block of Main Street escaped without injury. North Huntingdon police fire marshal Nick Driestadt said.

Firefighters from the North Huntingdon, Irwin, North Irwin and Manor poured water into the house as portions of the roof and sides of the two-story building collapsed. Firefighters worked through heavy smoke, single-digit temperatures and chilling wind.

The fire was reported at about 11:30 a.m
