Greensburg and Hempfield fire crews Thursday put an end to smoldering from a fire that destroyed a storage barn Saturday afternoon at a Hempfield equestrian center.
The fire briefly closed a section of Business Route 66 Saturday and ravaged a storage barn after a stubborn fire broke out, burning about 300 circle bales of hay.
The hay continued to smoke and smolder, sparking concerns from nearby respiratory-challenged residents.

Greensburg firefighters used a high expansion foam to douse the smoke that hung a cloud over the Westmoreland Equestrian Center this week, said fire Chief Tom Bell. A Hempfield tanker supplied water to help snuff out the smoke, he said.
Crews were there for about two to three hours Thursday morning.
