Firefighters rescued a person and a dog Friday morning that were trapped on a wooded hillside in Unity , according to a Westmoreland 911 dispatcher.

Two people became stuck on the hillside in the Horseshoe Drive area of Lawson Heights at 9:30 a.m. after the dog they were walking got away, the dispatcher said. The hillside was steep and unstable, according to firefighters.

One person made it back up the hill on their own. Emergency crews from area departments worked together to set up a rope system to pull the second person and the dog to safety in about 45 minutes.

A rescue boat was dispatched to Loyalhanna Creek to help, but it was not needed. The two people and dog involved are expected to be OK, fire officials said.
