First responders on Monday recovered the body of a West Mifflin man from the Youghiogheny River in Rostraver.

Craig A. Helsel, 53, of West Mifflin was recovered by a rescue team shortly before 11 a.m., according to Westmoreland County Deputy Coroner Joshua Zappone. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Searchers were looking for Helsel, who was reported missing from the Smithton Beach area since around 8 p.m. Sunday, according to Westmoreland County 911.

First responders combed the area for hours before calling off the search Sunday night.

They resumed the search Monday.

Rostraver Township police, several fire departments, the Greensburg Bloodhound Team and the Greensburg Volunteer Fire Department Dive Team assisted, according to 911.

A cause of death is pending an autopsy and toxicology results.
