Seven pallets of graveside flags were distributed Friday at the Westmoreland County Courthouse in Greensburg to veterans groups, which are to place them in area cemeteries in time for Memorial Day, according to county Veterans Affairs Director Matt Zamosky.
Members of the Combat Veterans Motorcycle Association and the Westmoreland County Veterans of the War on Terror participated, along with local posts of the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars and AMVETS.
The groups arrived at staggered times to promote social distancing during the current covid-19 pandemic.
The county Veterans Affairs office issues about 60,000 of the flags each year, Zamosky said. He said they are meant to remain at veterans’ graves through the first day following the Fourth of July.
The flags are to be of U.S. origin and, this year, were supplied by a New Jersey company, he said.
