Former Bishop Lawrence Brandt of the Catholic Diocese of Greensburg

Former Diocese of Greensburg Bishop Lawrence E. Brandt, who died Sunday morning at age 86, will be celebrated during several services next week.

Brandt, named bishop by Pope John Paul II in 2004, led the diocese for 11 years. The diocese has not officially released the cause of death, but Bishop Larry J. Kulick posted on social media Saturday, saying Brandt had suffered a cardiac event earlier in the week.

Brandt has been remembered this week as a leader who made difficult decisions at a time of declining church membership.

The following viewings and services will be held next week at Blessed Sacrament Cathedral in honor of Brandt, according to the diocese

• June 18 — viewing, 4 to 6 p.m.; Mass, 7 p.m.

• June 19 — viewing, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.; vigil service, 6 p.m.; Mass, 7 p.m.

• June 20 — viewing, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.; funeral Mass, 2 p.m.

Burial at the Greensburg Catholic Cemetery, located along Greensburg-Donohoe Station Road, will follow the June 20 funeral Mass.

Each of the services will be livestreamed on the diocese’s website and social media.
