A former Greensburg police officer is charged in federal court with conspiring to sell methamphetamine.

Regina McAtee, who was suspended in late 2022 before retiring last year, was charged with a single count by the U.S. Attorney’s Office Wednesday.

McAtee is represented by defense attorney Charles Porter, who said Wednesday evening he could not comment on the case.

City Solicitor Zachary Kansler said last year McAtee’s suspension did not impact any of the department’s cases or investigations. She had been with the department for more than 19 years.

Greensburg Mayor Robb Bell could not be immediately reached for comment Wednesday evening.

Veteran council member Randy Finfrock deferred questions to Bell and Kansler, who did not immediately respond to an email requesting comment Wednesday evening.

City officials earlier declined to discuss the basis for the employee’s discipline, citing police department policy.

The charges come a little more than a year after former Greensburg police Chief Shawn Denning was arrested on federal drug charges.

The Delmont man was taken into custody at City Hall in January 2023.

Denning is accused of acting as a go-between for interstate drug deals that were part of a sting operation carried out by the federal Drug Enforcement Administration.

He is charged with two counts of aiding and abetting the distribution of cocaine and three counts of aiding and abetting the distribution of methamphetamine, according to a complaint filed by the DEA in federal court in Pittsburgh.

A federal judge in December granted a sixth extension to file a potential indictment.
