Former Jeannette Glass site officially sold to Elliott Company
After years of local government control, Elliott Company now officially owns the former Jeannette Glass site.
Groundbreaking for the company’s planned cryogenic pump test stand will take place Dec. 3.
The Westmoreland Industrial Development Corp. in March 2018 approved a resolution authorizing the sale of the 13-acre property to Elliott Group for $600,000. Since then, Elliott officials have been securing permits and working with an engineer to design the facility.
The site, in the heart of Jeannette’s downtown, is about 1.5 miles away from the company’s U.S. headquarters, also located in Jeannette.
The testing facility and expanded manufacturing operations building cryogenic pumps and expanders at Elliott’s headquarters will add about 130 jobs to the company’s Jeannette workforce, officials said.
“Cryogenic pumps are a recent addition to Elliott’s product line,” Michael Lordi, CEO of Elliott Group, said in a statement. “The ability to test these units prior to shipping is a key element of the manufacturing process, and is essential to Elliott’s expansion plans.”
The Elliott Group, a wholly owned subsidiary of the Tokyo-based Ebara Corp., supplies compressors and turbines for liquefied natural gas plants.
Work at the site is expected to start early next month in advance of the official ground breaking. Construction could be complete in about 18 months, Elliott officials said.
The IDC bought the former glass site for $305,000 at a 2012 tax sale and, after years of legal challenges from the previous owner, embarked on a $6 million redevelopment project which has been funded by state and local dollars.
The majority of the work wrapped up in 2018 and a stream opening this year was the final phase.
