A former Jeannette man who served a 15-month prison sentence for assaulting two deputy sheriffs was arrested again last week, this time on charges that he attacked a Youngwood woman in her home.

State police said Jesse Hassinger, 38, attacked the woman when an argument over a pet cat turned physical.

Hassinger was charged with a felony count of strangulation, and misdemeanor charge of simple assault and a summary harassment offense.

Hassinger’s preliminary hearing is scheduled to be heard by Youngwood District Justice Anthony Bompiani on Tuesday, Feb. 11.

Hassinger, according to court records served a 15-to-30 month prison sentence after pleading guilty in 2017 to charges he assaulted two deputy sheriffs during a courtroom confrontation following a domestic hearing.

Deputies said Hassinger immediately became combative when he entered the courtroom and spotted a woman who filed a protection-from-abuse claim against him.

Deputy Ed Fink said Hassinger pushed and kicked the sheriffs as they tried to restrain him. Fink was thrown off a wooden bench in the courtroom; he said Hassinger tried to choke him while he was on the floor. Another deputy also was injured during the fight.

In January 2018, Hassinger pleaded guilty to another assault involving what police said was an attack against a live-in girlfriend the previous March.

In that case, Hassinger was sentenced to serve an 18-month concurrent prison and was eligible for parole in November 2018.
