Franklin Regional school board members filled a couple of the positions left open after the departure of several administrators in the past few months.

School directors approved a new assistant superintendent and assistant high school principal, following the resignations of Robin Pynos and Ted Benning, respectively.

Matthew Delp joins the district following a stint as principal at Seneca Valley Intermediate High School, the same building where he got his start teaching two decades prior.

“I’m absolutely pleasured to be here at FR, an excellent school district with an excellent reputation,” Delp said at Monday night’s school board voting meeting.

The board approved a three-year contract for Delp at $155,000 per year.

“As a new assistant superintendent, you’re limited to three years and not the typical five,” Superintendent Gennaro Piraino said.

Delp taught for seven years at Seneca Valley before administrative turns in the Freedom, Pine-Richland, North Allegheny districts, before returning to Seneca as intermediate high school principal.

Heath Curren joins Franklin Regional after serving as assistant high school principal in the Belle Vernon Area School District. He will earn $90,000 annually.

“It was a tough process, but I appreciate being pushed to show what I’m about and what I can bring to Franklin Regional,” Curren said. “It’s a team I’m beyond excited to join, and I also really look forward to the opportunity to work with a great staff, get to know a great community, and most importantly, serve the students of Franklin Regional.”

Contracts for Delp and Curren were approved by an 8-0 vote — school director Vince Azzolina was not present.
