Free wash days this weekend at revamped Greensburg laundromat

A laundry service that has been in Greensburg for decades is new again.

Nu-Way Laundromat on Highland Avenue has been renovated since new owner Anna Zaydenberg took over in December 2024. While the original name remains on the building, the inside has a new look with updated washers and dryers, gathering space, vending machines and an area for children to play while their clothes are being cleaned.

Many of the updates were the result of input from customers, said Marsha Simonds, Zaydenberg’s daughter.

“I do want people to embrace the space,” she said.

To celebrate, washers and dryers will be free Saturday and Sunday during open hours, 5:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. both days, first come, first served. A free grand reopening and community event Saturday will be held from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The renovations were a collaborative effort, with Christian Jussen serving as project manager for construction and Jeff Altman from Pittsburgh Laundry Systems for creating the new space for washers and dryers, including two 80-pound washers. Even Simonds’ 13-year-old son Lucas got involved helping to reimagine the building’s interior.

“It’s a complete change since what it was,” Simonds said. “I really wanted to make it more of a community feel.”

Nu-Way Laundromat has been a staple in the city since the 1960s, and was damaged by fire in 2022. To go along with the more modern look, the machines are no longer coin-operated, but rather run through an electronic card system.

The weekend’s free laundry is in partnership with Carelon Behavioral Health and Suds of Love. The grand reopening and community event will include a free lunch, bounce house, corn hole and other activities.

Although the inside has changed, the facility’s wash and fold drop-off service remains Monday through Friday 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., but lockers have been added for drop-off and pick-up in case customers can’t make it there during those hours.
