The North Huntingdon chapter of Wreaths Across American will auction items and hold a raffle in its efforts to raise about $51,000 to buy 3,000 wreaths for veterans buried at the Union, Immaculate Conception and Long Run cemeteries in North Huntingdon and Irwin.
Crafters and vendors will be selling various goods during the fundraiser from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Nov. 23 at the J. Howard Snyder Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 781 at 100 Billot Road, North Huntingdon, to buy evergreen wreaths to be placed on the graves of veterans buried at three cemeteries in Irwin and North Huntingdon.
Those attending the fundraiser will have an opportunity to sponsor a wreath to be placed in cemeteries where the chapter lays wreaths.
The organization also will collect items donated for Christmas stockings for troops.
The wreath-laying event will begin with a ceremony at noon on Dec. 14. at Union Cemetery, Pennsylvania Avenue. Volunteers are welcome to attend to assist in laying the wreaths.
