Columbia Gas of Pennsylvania crews have started to replace more than 11,600 feet of gas pipelines serving about 90 customers on six streets in North Huntingdon, the company said.
Customers along Main Street and Iris, Saralyn, Tulip, Hazel and Mica drives will be affected, Columbia Gas officials said. The gas company will work Mondays through Fridays from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., with possibly some Saturday work. Motorists can expect lane restrictions during working hours.
The replacement project began last month and is expected to continue through June. It will cost approximately $1.9 million and is part of the utility’s infrastructure replacement initiative, the company said.
The work will require Columbia Gas temporarily to interrupt natural gas service while the supply is transferred to the new pipeline. Customers will be contacted before their service is shut off and told when it will be restored.
Customers with indoor meters will have their meters relocated outside. This, and other work on existing outside meters, will be completed at no cost to the customer.
All company and contract employees carry photo ID badges identifying them as Columbia Gas employees or contractors. Customers are encouraged to ask for ID before allowing anyone into their home, or they can call 888-460-4332 for Columbia Gas employee verification.
