Glass City Heritage Festival on tap in Jeannette
Jeannette will pay homage to its glass-making roots this weekend during the Glass City Heritage Festival.
The event, sponsored by the Jeannette Business Association, will take place Saturday in the 400 and 500 blocks of Clay Avenue from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
There will be food, vendors, crafters, music, raffles, prizes and games. Activities include pumpkin painting, animals from BunRabit’s Rescue, balloon animals, face painting and a coat giveaway from the Knights of Columbus.
Library story time will start at 11 a.m. followed by a police dog demonstration at 11:30 a.m.
The Jeannette Community Band will perform at 1 p.m. followed by Tom Foolery at 2:30. There will be glass blowing and pottery wheel demonstrations throughout the event.
Once home to seven glass factories, Jeannette was known as Glass City at one time. The factories produced a variety of items including sheet and milk glass.
