Goodwill to open new store in Salem; job fair slated
Goodwill of Southwestern Pennsylvania plans to open a new location in a Route 22 plaza in Salem, an area where the nonprofit has seen growth in both shopping and donations, a spokesman said.
The store will be about five miles from an existing Goodwill store at the Franklin Plaza in Route 22, but nonprofit spokesman David Tobiczyk said the organization sees a need to expand eastward along the corridor.
When it opens in November, the Salem location will be the seventh Goodwill store in the county. Others are in East Huntingdon , Hempfield, Murrysville, North Huntingdon, Rostraver and Unity.
Goodwill will lease a new building under construction to fit its needs, rather than remodeling an existing structure, Tobiczyk said. About 8,500 square feet will be earmarked for the retail section of the store where clothing and other goods are displayed, while about 5,000 square feet will be designated for processing donations.
The size of the store is similar to other new Goodwill stores, such as ones in West Mifflin and Washington, Tobiczyk said.
Franjo Construction of Homestead is handling the project at 6740 Hollywood Blvd. for owner Delmont Properties LP of Pittsburgh’s West End.
To staff the new store, Goodwill will hold a job fair for 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. July 20 at its Murrysville store, 4612 William Penn Highway. Goodwill seeks to hire full-time and part-time workers. Pay is $10 an hour with paid time off for all positions, employee discounts and non-extended hours on holidays.
Those interested can apply online before the job fair at www.goodwillswpa.org/jobs. Computers will be available at the Murrysville store for walk-ins at the job fair.
