Greensburg City Council has taken the next step in its plan to dissolve the city’s Historic and Architectural Review Board.
Council will introduce an ordinance at Monday’s meeting to dissolve HARB.
Last month, council unanimously voted to have the city solicitor draft an ordinance to abolish the board.
Mayor Robert Bell said the board creates unnecessary extra work for development in the city.
Major construction projects need to be considered by three groups — the planning commission, HARB and council, before work can begin.
If the ordinance passes, the planning commission will take on HARB’s duties.
The seven-member board was established to preserve the historical integrity of downtown Greensburg and along Main, Otterman, Pittsburgh and West Newton streets — the main roadways through the city.
When council introduces an ordinance, it usually votes on it the following month. The final vote on HARB likely will take place in July.
