Greensburg’s annual holiday parade is set for Saturday, with a later start time than usual.

City council member Sheila Brumley said the parade will begin at 4:30 p.m., to encourage participants to include holiday lights in their entries. She advised those who are arriving by vehicle to see the parade that parking will not be available at Greensburg Salem Middle School.

The parade features 86 groups and will begin near the Westmoreland Museum of American Art, moving south on Main Street to City Hall.

Traffic will be closed on Main and surrounding streets, including Pittsburgh and Otterman, beginning at about 2 p.m., according to Mayor Robb Bell.

Candy will be handed out to onlookers, and Santa and Mrs. Claus will be featured at the end of the procession, to welcome in the holiday.

Vickie Rowe and Barbara Vernail will serve as grand marshals, in honor of their late mother, Jean Rowe, who had appeared as Mrs. Claus for 33 years. Jean Rowe was well known in the Greensburg Salem School District, working in the cafeteria and faithfully attending Golden Lions football games.
