Greensburg hopes to stop utility pole crashes with alley traffic change
Greensburg City Council hopes to stop drivers from crashing into a downtown utility pole by changing the direction of traffic on one block of a narrow alley.
Cars have struck a West Penn Power utility pole as drivers attempt to turn from Third Street to travel north on Bononi Way, according to city officials. The pole was recently replaced.
Bononi Way is an alley that runs three blocks from West Pittsburgh Street to Fourth Street.
The direction of travel on the one-way alley is divided at Third Street, with traffic running north from Third Street to West Pittsburgh Street and south from Third Street to Fourth Street.
Council will vote on an ordinance Monday that would move the north-south dividing line one block up, to Second Street.
There are no utility poles at the intersection of Second Street and Bononi Way.
