Greensburg Ladies Night Out offers shopping fun for everyone
The Greensburg Business & Professionals Association will make holiday gift-buying easier — or at least more enjoyable — with its Ladies Night Out shopping event on Thursday.
The fun kicks off at 5 p.m., with participating stores in downtown and the surrounding area staying open until 9 p.m., offering treats and merchandise specials.
Shoppers can begin the evening at Zion’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, 140 S. Pennsylvania Ave., where a list of shops and a “Must Stop” punch card will be available. By visiting the 10 businesses listed on the card, shoppers will be entered into a drawing for an overnight stay at Oak Lodge, a secluded resort set on 800 wooded acres near Stahlstown.
In all, about 25 businesses will participate, said Marion McFeely, an event committee member and owner of McFeely’s Gourmet Chocolates in Greensburg and Irwin.
Stores are within a walkable distance, she said, but a free mini-bus will travel a continuous circuit around the featured area, with stops at each of the “Must Stop” shops.
About 10 additional vendors will be set up in the church, offering “items not necessarily carried in the local shops,” McFeely said. A basket raffle also will be available there, with each participating store and vendor contributing a basket.
Featured merchants may offer discounts or other shopping specials, along with wine samples, cookies, snacks or other beverages.
Two food trucks and the Bella Terra Vineyards wine wagon will be parked downtown.
“The food will be something easy to eat as you keep on moving,” McFeely said.
Merchant specials will be available during open hours throughout the day, but there’s something special about visiting downtown Greensburg during the evening, McFeely said.
“People sometimes comment on how Greensburg closes up at 4 or 5 o’clock, so it’s nice to see the stores open late with the lights on and sparkling,” she said. “It’s so much fun to see people going up and down the streets in the evening.”
And, though it’s called Ladies Night Out, everyone is welcome.
