A banner promoting Greensburg’s Cultural District hangs in St. Clair Park. The Greensburg Community Development Corporation is preparing a new series of banners that will honor veterans and first responders.

Greensburg is looking for some hometown heroes to feature on banners adorning the city’s lamp posts.

The Greensburg Community Development Corporation organized the design and hanging of banners in the city and the borough of Southwest Greensburg for more than a decade, but this year it’s trying something new, said corporation Executive Director Ashley Kertes.

Half of 2020’s banners will feature artwork of the city. The other half will feature photos of local veterans and first responders.

“It is a privilege to help honor our local veterans and first responders and shine a spotlight on the sacrifices they have made to protect our country and our community,” Kertes said in a statement.

The corporation will accept photos for the banners on a first-come first-serve basis. The cost to submit a photo is $200.

After the banners have hung in Greensburg for two years, they will be given to the families of the featured people as a keepsake.

Businesses can sponsor banners for $200 each.

The banners will be displayed in Downtown Greensburg and Southwest Greensburg.

The deadline for reserving a banner is Feb. 28.
