A 22-year-old Greensburg man was arrested on multiple criminal charges of breaking into his ex-girlfriend’s apartment and assaulting her early Sunday, according to city police.

Elijah Shalil Vento was arrested on charges of burglary, simple assault, criminal mischief and harassment after the 4:37 a.m. incident on the 300 block of Westminster Avenue. Vento was arraigned before District Judge Mark Mansour and ordered held in the county prison after failing to post $75,000 bail.

Police said in court documents when they arrived for a report of a burglary in progress they discovered the victim crying, with multiple bruises and bleeding from a cut on her forearm. She alleged Vento, her ex-boyfriend, entered the house through a basement door, went to her bedroom where an argument ensued and he began physically assaulting her.

She told police she ran from the house to her car to flee, but it wouldn’t start. The victim told police Vento followed her and she attempted to take cover inside the car.

However, Vento continued assaulting her and broke a window in the vehicle causing the laceration. Vento ran before police arrived, but was arrested later.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled July 18 before Greensburg District Judge Chris Flanigan.
