A Greensburg man’s sentence was modified Thursday to 20 months of probation in connection with a 2023 hit-and-run that left a woman seriously hurt.

Christopher M. Degnan, 46, was ordered to spend 90 days on house arrest with electronic monitoring.

He was arrested months after police said he hit a then-76-year-old woman while she was crossing South Main Street in Greensburg using a wheeled walker on Dec. 28, 2023. The woman was hospitalized after being found around 9:40 p.m. lying in the road. She had numerous fractures, including to her face, spine, head and arm, police said.

The driver left the scene, but authorities quickly knew the make of the vehicle involved because a turn signal housing compartment bearing the word “Honda” was part of the debris at the scene. Police said they checked video surveillance and found a white Honda CR-V traveled through at the time of the crash.

A city officer on patrol found the SUV two days later parked on Liberty Street with damage consistent with the crash. Fabric from the woman’s clothing was found on the passenger hood area of the vehicle, police said.

Degnan pleaded guilty April 30 to accidents involving injury. He was sentenced then to time served to 23 months in jail. Degnan spent about two months in jail after his arrest in May 2024, according to court records.

Assistant District Attorney Anthony Iannamorelli said during Thursday’s hearing that the sentence needed to be modified because Degnan was subject to a mandatory 90 days of imprisonment. He was credited with 73 days served, so home electronic monitoring will resume for 17 days, Judge Michael Stewart II ordered.

An aggravated assault by vehicle charge was withdrawn, according to court records. Four summary offenses were dismissed under the plea agreement.
