A Greensburg man will serve up to 10 years in prison for the armed robbery of a Jeannette convenience store.

Clinton Young III, 25, pleaded guilty Wednesday to two counts of robbery and other related offenses in connection with the June 30 heist at a CoGo’s store on Harrison Avenue. Witnesses told police Young barged into the store with his face covered, brandished a gun and dragged a clerk across the floor, grabbed money from a cash register and counted out loud when the weapon discharged.

Young pointed his gun at a woman in the store and attempted to take keys to a vehicle parked outside before he eventually fled before police arrived, witnesses said. Police said Young stole $211 from the store and another $20 from a female customer.

According to police, Young was chased and was subdued by with a Taser after he emerged from a nearby creek.

Westmoreland County Common Pleas Court Judge Tim Krieger sentenced Young to serve 5-to-10 years in prison and another five years on probation.

Assistant Public Defender Donna McClelland said Young’s drug addiction is what led him to the robbery.

“He did start college a WCCC and was on his way to succeeding when he got involved in drugs,” McClelland said.
